Steven Yeun is reportedly joining the cast of Marvel Studios’ upcoming “Thunderbolts” film.
It is unclear what role Yeun will play, and the overall plot of the film is being kept under wraps. In the comics, the Thunderbolts are a coalition of villains sent on off-the-books missions by the U.S. government.
Yeun is no stranger to lending his star power to beloved comic book franchises, from AMC’s “The Walking Dead” to Amazon Prime Video’s “Invincible.”
He joins an ensemble cast that includes Florence Pugh as super spy Yelena Belova, Sebastian Stan as Winter Soldier, David Harbour as Red Guardian, Wyatt Russell as short-lived Captain America successor U.S. Agent, Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost, Olga Kurylenko as Taskmaster and Julia Louis-Dreyfus as C.I.A. Director Valentina Allegra de Fontaine. “The Bear” star Ayo Edebiri is also slated to appear in an undisclosed role.
Jake Schreier is tapped to direct the movie, with “Black Widow” writer Eric Pearson penning the script and Kevin Feige producing.
Besides Marvel projects, Yeun will co-star in the upcoming A24-produced Netflix dark comedy series “Beef” with Ali Wong. He is also set to reunite with director Bong Joon Ho on the Warner Bros sci-fi thriller “Mickey 17.”
“Thunderbolts” is scheduled to hit theaters on July 26, 2024.
