Simu Liu took a playful jab at 2024 Golden Globes host Jo Koy during his opening monologue at the People’s Choice Awards on Sunday.
“An Asian host of a major awards show — what could possibly go wrong?” he said after introducing himself as the host.
Liu touches on ‘Barbenheimer’: On Sunday, Liu also took a turn touching on the same subjects, saying “‘Oppenheimer’ showed us that a three-hour drama about the moral complexities of creating the atom bomb could be a massive financial success … as long as it came out on the same day as ‘Barbie.’”
Swiftie status: Liu also humorously referenced Swift and her Eras Tour film, playfully acknowledging his Swiftie status.
“Who could forget that one little movie about a blonde American icon that had the entire country dressing up, dancing the night away and making huge waves at the box office? I’m talking, of course, about ‘Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour’ movie,” he says before adding, “I was a Swiftie long before I was Ken.”
“[Noah] strikes the perfect balance of like being funny but like in such a celebratory kind of way,” Liu said. “That’s like, ‘We’re here to have a good time, to party. We’re not here to like try to offend anyone and try to make the most offensive joke we possibly can. Let’s just have a good time. It’s not that hard, you know. That was his advice.”
