‘Shōgun’ and API Creatives Win Big at the Golden Globes

The 82nd Golden Globes were the unofficial start of the most wonderful time of the year, aka award season (at least in Hollywood.) This meant the biggest and brightest of the entertainment industry, from Zendaya to Michelle Yeoh, made their way to the Beverly Hilton to celebrate the best of television and movies. And the Globes weren’t shy about highlighting API excellence this year — in fact, several API creatives were recognized for their achievements in the industry. 

The biggest one came as no surprise to anyone paying attention this year, and it’s well deserved, so no complaints here: “Shōgun” triumphed once again after their historic run at this year’s Emmys — winning four major awards at this year’s ceremony.  The FX drama snagged the most significant television award of the night, Best Television Series-Drama. But that’s not all; Anna Sawai received the Best Performance by An Actress in A Television Series-Drama award, Hiroyuki Sanada won Best Performance by An Actor in A Television Series-Drama and Tadanobu Asano was recognized with his win in Best Performance by A Male Actor in a Supporting Role on Television for his role in the series. 

A familiar face returned to the Golden Globes Stage, Ali Wong, who just won last year for her performance in “Beef” was recognized by the award ceremony for her latest comedy special “Single Lady,” which is currently airing on Netflix. This year, the wickedly talented Jon M. Chu also accepted the Best Motion Picture Cinematic and Box Office Achievement award for “Wicked,” highlighting the musical’s stellar performance at the box office.

Not too shabby as a start for API creatives this year. But don’t get too sad if you missed the Globes; there are still at least three more months of award ceremonies and red-carpet looks to…
