California Governor Gavin Newsom has allocated $5 million to assist those affected by the January shootings at two farms in Half Moon Bay near San Francisco.
This funding is part of a larger $16 million grant initiative aimed at making homeownership more accessible to farmworkers in California. They will be used to purchase 28 housing units, with 18 units prioritized for the families displaced by the shootings, while the remaining 10 units will be available to other low-income farmworkers in San Mateo County.
San Mateo County has been working to support the affected families who were left without housing or income. The grants aim to address the existing gaps in support for Asian farmworkers and provide resources to ensure safe and affordable housing.
