A captivated crowd. Hundreds moved by a drum performance that brought them to a standstill Friday evening at the Asian American Pacific Islander Night Market. The family-friendly event hosted by the Sacramento Asian Pacific Chamber of Commerce is in its second year, drawing an estimated crowd of 4,000, which is double last year’s turnout. The event is the largest fundraiser of the year for the chamber and organizers say, it was so popular last year, they decided to bring it back this year. The event offered a wide representation of the AAPI cultures that enrich the community.“Each culture is represented,” said local radio personality Kevin Nguyen, who attended the event. “Not only Vietnamese, Chinese, Filipino, but Hmong and Japanese. Everything is here!”Night Market coincides with Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month – a time when the community impact of AAPI-owned small businesses is highlighted.Sacramento-based Sun Kissed & Co. creator & founder, Kimberly Lim, told KCRA 3 why she attended the event as an AAPI Night Market vendor.“I do about 100 events every single year and hands down, my favorite, I love seeing the community come together and just having everyone show up,” Lim said.Food vendors drew people in with familiar favorites and gave them the chance to delight in specialty dishes.“I never had anything like this growing up,” said event attendee Charlize Cruz. “It’s really cool to see all these Asian cultures come together.”Thousands of people – coming together to lift up the community, as a whole.“I think it’s cool to just try different food, get exposed, and be around a bunch of good people, Asian or American, you know.”
