Dubbed the “Nation’s Girl-Group,” Pinoy-pop girl group BINI may not necessarily be veterans, but they’ve definitely paved their own path in the industry — playing a critical role in the rising popularity of P-pop worldwide. The eight members — Aiah, Colet, Maloi, Gwen, Stacey, Mikha, Jhoanna and Sheena — made history last month when they performed at KCON, becoming the first P-pop act to grace the convention’s stage.
During their visit to Los Angeles, BINI stopped by the Character Media office to take a journey through the last decade of pop-girl hits with a game of “Complete The Chorus.” The girls were split into two groups and were played a 15-second snippet of each song. If they knew the song, they raised their hands. The teams would earn a point for singing the song’s chorus and another for naming the title and artist.
At least, those were the intended mechanics — until the girls’ competitive natures quickly shuffled that up.
The atmosphere was energetic, and the members became excited every time a song played. With popular tracks ranging from Taylor Swift’s “Shake it Off” to New Jeans’ “Ditto,” the BINI members recognized each one. When most members would jive in their seats, Maloi was prone to standing up and dancing, showing off her moves. Gwen was surprised when she heard “bad guy” by Billie Eilish, her mouth open in shock. Colet had a near identical reaction to Olivia Rodrigo’s “drivers license.”
The members’ playful chemistry was on full display and shined throughout the game. When “thank u, next” by Ariana Grande played, all of the members deferred to Stacey, letting her vocals shine; turns out she’d given solo performances of the song on tour! Later, during the clip for Cardi B’s “
