A TikTok user recently shared her experience trying cannabis oil-infused sushi from New York omakase restaurant Sushi by Bou.

What she’s saying: Detailing her experience, Morgan Raum, who reviews restaurants and bars on social media, says in a video uploaded to TikTok on Feb. 8 that the sushi she tried, which was injected with hemp-derived marijuana oil using a needle and syringe in front of customers, “did not taste any different than the others.” She adds that customers can choose which pieces they want to be injected with the oil and how strong they want it.

Speaking about the effects, Raum said she only felt “a little bit” of the cannabis’ effect, but that others who ate more of it “definitely felt it.”

What to expect: According to Raum, Sushi by Bou, located in Broadway’s Flatiron District in New York City, only serves cannabis-infused mocktails, which are non-alcoholic mixture drinks, at the moment.

The weed oil-infused sushi seen in the video is also seemingly a limited-time offering. Raum notes that it will eventually become part of Sushi by Bou’s menu soon.

About the restaurant: Sushi by Bou unveiled its retro-themed “’90s Hip Hop, Roaring ’20s and Disco, Whiskey Library and Tokyo Alley” makeover at its Flatiron District branch in late January, according to a press release. The Broadway outlet is one of the many planned branches the restaurant will open across the country in 2024.

Sushi by Bou partners with Gorilla Lifestyle, a hemp-derived cannabis company, in developing its cannabis-infused menu.

The restaurant offers two choices for its omakase experience: a 30-minute, 12-course omakase for $60 and a 60-minute, 17-course omakase for $100. The latter, also known as the “Bou-gie upgrade,” will include five additional seasonal courses, the restaurant said.

Cannabis legality: Adult use of cannabis became legalized in the state of New York after the state government passed the Marijuana Regulation and Taxation Act (MRTA)…
