Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley made a surprise guest appearance in a skit skewering Donald Trump on the most recent episode of “Saturday Night Live.”
Haley’s cameo: The former U.N. ambassador made a cameo appearance on the TV show on Saturday, poking fun at former President Trump‘s age and mental competency. The “SNL” sketch was set at a mock-up CNN Town Hall, with Haley questioning Trump (portrayed by comedian James Austin Johnson) on why he won’t debate her and Trump making jokes about women in leadership.
“Are you doing OK, Donald? You might need a mental competency test,” says Haley, 52, who has presented herself as a younger and more capable option compared to both Trump, 77, and President Joe Biden, 81.
“I took the test, and I aced it,” the Trump impersonator replies. “They told me I’m 100% mental, and I’m competent because I’m a man. That’s why a woman should never run our economy. Women are terrible with money.”
The jokes’ references: Haley’s jokes are in reference to Trump’s recent verbal mistakes, including when he confused Haley with former Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi during a speech on Jan. 19. The former president has also appeared to slur his words and suggested that Barack Obama was still in office in other occasions. Trump has also refused to participate in any GOP presidential primary debates, hence Haley calling him out on the “SNL” sketch.
Ayo Edebiri’s mocks Haley: Guest host Ayo Edebiri also appears in the sketch, mocking Haley for previously avoiding stating that slavery caused the Civil War.
“I was just curious, what would you say was the main cause of the Civil War? And do you think it starts with an ‘s’ and ends with a ‘lavery’?” Edebiri asks.
“Yes, I probably should have said that the first time,” Haley answers.
Latest on Haley: Despite the criticism, Haley later tweeted, “Had a blast tonight on SNL! Know it was past Donald’s bedtime so…
