All hail the rising queen of Netflix! Just two months into 2023, Tati Gabrielle will be reprising her role as Marienne Bellamy in the popular thriller “You,” only one month after the surprise drop of the heist series “Kaleidoscope” in which she played security head Hannah Kim. When we last chatted with Gabrielle, it was before she took on the role of the lead twisted sister and witch Prudence on the Netflix series “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.”
This time around, I talked to Gabrielle about both her latest releases and feeling represented as a multiracial actor in Hollywood.

Growing up in Oakland, California, and then later Atlanta, Gabrielle grew up with her Korean mother teaching her to use chopsticks and speak Korean. Despite having a slew of roles from the CW’s “The 100” to the action film “Uncharted,” Gabrielle has never played a character of mixed ethnicity … until now.
“I had so many conversations with my mom about finally getting to play a character that is my actual mixed ethnicity,” Gabrielle shared. “That’s really, really special. I don’t know why the industry hasn’t been able to grasp or accept that there are a lot of mixed-race people in the world and that it’s a very normal thing that it doesn’t have to be put under a magnifying glass.”
In Netflix’s January release “Kaleidoscope,” Gabrielle portrays Hannah Kim and even gets to show off her Korean language skills. The experimental limited series follows a heist loosely inspired by a real-life heist of $70 million worth of bonds during Hurricane Sandy. Centered on the mastermind and Hannah’s father, Leo Pap, played by Giancarlo Esposito, the show can be watched in any order, and each episode depicts certain timeframes of the heist from planning to after the deed.
Hannah’s mixed-race identity was actually lost on me…
