Lauren Tom will be joining the cast of Hulu’s upcoming series “Interior Chinatown.”
Tom will play Betty, a successful and quick-witted real-estate agent, according to Deadline.
The 61-year-old actor, who played Ross’ girlfriend Julie in Season 2 of the classic ‘90s sitcom “Friends,” is also known for portraying Lena St. Clair in the 1993 film “The Joy Luck Club” and Celia Mack, the grandmother of Peyton Elizabeth Lee‘s Andi Mack in the 2017 Disney Channel series “Andi Mac.”
Tom has also voiced characters such as Amy Wong in “Futurama,” Jinx and Gizmo in “Teen Titans” and “Teen Titans Go!,” Minh and Connie Souphanousinphone in “King of the Hill” and Numbuh 3 in “Codename: Kids Next Door.”
She will reportedly reprise her role as Lena St. Clair in the highly anticipated “Joy Luck Club” sequel.
“Interior Chinatown,” which is based on the National Book Award-winning novel of the same name by Charles Yu, revolves around Willis Wu (portrayed by Jimmy O. Yang), a background character stuck in a police procedural show.
Wu, who aims to break into the show’s main plot, eventually uncovers truths about the bizarre environment he exists in, as well as his family’s covert past.
In addition to Tom and Yang, the film’s cast includes Chloe Bennet as Lana Lee, Ronny Chieng as Fatty Choi, Tzi Ma as Joe Wu, Archie Kao as Uncle Wong and Diana Lin as Lily Wu.
“Thor: Love and Thunder” and “Akira” director Taika Waititi will direct the pilot and executive produce the series. Yu will serve as showrunner and also executive produce. Other executive producers include Dan Lin and Elsie Choi.
An official release date for “Interior Chinatown” has yet to be announced.
