If you’ve been itching for another deeply emotional and probably slightly confusing project from Greta Lee after watching “Past Lives,” then you’re in for a treat. Recently, the actress was cast to star in Hungarian filmmaker Lili Horvát’s first English-language feature film, “My Notes on Mars.”

Lee will play Margot, a gifted scientist who unexpectedly disappears on a hike with her friends and husband Scott, played by fellow Emmy and Golden-Globe nominee as well as “Actors on Actors” opposite Andrew Scott (“Ripley”). Weeks after she is presumed dead, Margot reappears the day a memorial service is held in her honor but is no longer the person her husband once knew. So, Scott takes her return as an opportunity to move beyond their pre-existing marriage troubles — a second chance.

Horvát, who wrote the script, will also direct and produce “My Notes on Mars.” She is best known for writing, directing and producing romantic drama “Preparations to Be Together for an Unknown Period of Time.” The film was selected as Hungary’s entry for Best International Feature at the 93rd Academy Awards, and was awarded an Independent Spirit Award in 2021. Dóra Csernátony, who worked with the multi-hyphenate on her award-winning film, will return to co-produce.
Shooting will begin next spring between Budapest and Vienna. Although not much else is known about the movie, if you’re interested in “a story about the labyrinthine human psyche, about the ever-changing faces of love,” as Horvát promises, then make sure to be on the lookout for updates.
