Gov. Phil Murphy returned to New Jersey on Sunday after a nine-day trade mission to East Asia — a trip that included an agreement to make it easier for South Koreans to get driver’s licenses in the Garden State and the promise of bringing new jobs here.
Murphy, First Lady Tammy Murphy, and a delegation of more than 50 people from New Jersey’s government, education, and business communities visited Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan to discuss ways to grow the economy and foster ties between the state and those countries. The trip followed similar visits Murphy made to Israel, Germany, India, and Ireland in recent years.
One tangible development from the trip was a reciprocity agreement between the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission and the National Police Agency of the Republic of Korea to simplify the process for South Koreans in New Jersey on a 12-month or longer visa to trade in their Korean driver’s license for a Garden State version and vice-versa.
