Disney has released the official trailer for its upcoming original movie “Prom Pact,” which features Peyton Elizabeth Lee, Milo Manheim and Margaret Cho.
The movie follows protagonist Mandy Yang, played by Lee, and her best friend Ben, played by Manheim, as they navigate their way through a barrage of over-the-top high school promposals, none of which can distract Mandy from her ultimate goal: getting into Harvard University.
After Mandy finds out she’s on Harvard’s waitlist, she seeks help from popular jock Graham Lansing, played by Blake Draper. As Mandy tutors Graham, the son of a prominent senator and Harvard alumni, she realizes there might be more to him and Harvard than she initially thought.
In a November 2021 interview with the Meet Cute blog, “Modern Family” star Julie Bowen, who serves as the film’s executive producer, spoke more in-depth about Mandy’s character.
The main character is a feminist, and she doesn’t believe in this idea of falling in love. It goes back to Shakespeare: she’s a little bit strident, very type A, and she doesn’t want to believe especially in heteronormative love, because she’s so liberal. But then she falls and there’s that undeniable chemistry.
Other names attached to the project include Lee as a co-producer and “Fresh Off the Boat” executive producers Melvin Mar and Jake Kasdan. Mar, Kasdan and Lee have worked together on medical comedy-drama series “Doogie Kameāloha, M.D,” where Lee stars as the protagonist. The show’s second season will premiere on Disney Plus in March. Mar and Kasdan will also executive produce the forthcoming Disney Plus series “American Born Chinese” with Destin Daniel Cretton, Asher Goldstein, Gene Luen Yang and Kelvin Yu.
Comedian Margaret Cho, Jason Sakaki, David S. Jung, Raine Mateo, Harnoor Gill, Brandy Le, Helen Dang-Pelham and Beta Chen help round out the cast.
“Prom Pact” will premiere on March 30 on the Disney Channel and on March 31 on Disney…
