Apple TV+ just released the new trailer for the second season of the historical drama “Pachinko.” Based on Min Jin Lee’s 2017 New York Times bestselling novel of the same name, the second season brings viewers back to the cross-generational epic about Korean immigrants in Japan.
The new trailer gives a peek into the season’s two main timelines: Osaka in 1945 and Tokyo in 1989. In Osaka, the trailer shows a younger Kim Sunja (Minha Kim) in the aftermath of her husband’s (Steve Noh) arrest and reuniting with her former flame Koh Hansu (Lee Min-ho). The parallel timeline in Tokyo sees Sunja’s grandson Solomon Baek (Jin Ha) “exploring new, humble beginnings.” The series explores Koreans living in Japan before and after WW2, highlighting themes of discrimination, survival and legacy.
“Pachinko” was first released in 2022 to critical acclaim. The first season was nominated for an Emmy and won a Peabody Award, as well as earned Minha Kim a Breakout in TV award at the 20th Unforgettable Gala. Season two will also feature Yuh-Jung Youn, Anna Sawai and Eunchae Jung. The show is written by Soo Hugh and directed by Kogonada and Justin Chon.
