“Your prayers have been answered,” Laufey comments on her TikTok video released today to promote her and Beabadoobee’s collaborative single, “A Night To Remember.” Indeed, listeners of both artists have been patiently waiting for a crossover, knowing that the two have been fans of one another for quite some time.
“I’ve been writing with a lot of different rhythms recently, also with strings and nods to more classical sounds,” Beabadoobee said in a statement. “Laufey is a great fit for this sound and we had started hanging out in London, so we got in the studio together to work on music and try ideas with my producer, Jacob.”
Since her early EPs and “Fake It Flowers” days, Bea has evolved in her sound, with her track, “the perfect pair,” exemplifying her recent venture into the jazz genre. We still love Bea’s teen angst indie rock era but fully support her stepping into this new matured, stripped-down sound showcased in “Beatopia.”
“Bea has been one of my favorite musicians for a while so getting to write and sing with her was a dream come true,” Laufey dishes about the collaboration. “We both agreed that we wanted to write something a bit sexier for this project and ‘A Night To Remember’ was born.”
Laufey has skyrocketed in popularity since her 2021 EP, with several of her singles and songs from her last studio album going viral on TikTok. Her live and recorded performances alongside a symphony have garnered attention as well. Lately, the singer-songwriter has been praised for reviving Gen Z’s interest in jazz.
The single rides the high of the two’s most recent (and massively successful) albums. There’s no telling what’s next for these two but one thing’s for sure: 2023 is their year.
