LOS ANGELES — Jason Momoa and Lisa Bonet are officially divorced.

A Los Angeles County judge’s dissolution of the marriage of the two actors, who had already been separated for years, took effect Tuesday.

Bonet and Momoa were married for more than seven years and were a couple for 12 years before they wed.

Bonet, whose legal name is Lilakoi Moon, filed for divorce in January. The documents listed the couple’s separation date as October 7, 2020, more than three years earlier. They made their separation public in 2022.

The divorce went as quickly as legally possible and came without dispute. Neither person will get financial support, they have agreed on how to split their assets, and they will have joint custody of their 16-year-old daughter and 15-year-old son.

Momoa, 44, is best known for his roles in the “Aquaman” movies and on “Game of Thrones.” Bonet, 56, was a star of “The Cosby Show,” its spinoff “A Different World,” and the films “High Fidelity” and “Enemy of the State.”

It was the first marriage for Momoa, who has revealed on social media that he is dating “Hit Man” and “Father of the Bride” actor Adria Arjona.

Beyond the artifacts, the exhibit promises interactive experiences, such as a “random dance play” in the museum’s rotunda, where attendees can sing and dance to music from Hybe acts, and a Photoism booth, where they can pose for photos alongside their favorite acts. “We’re even going to have a little fan area where fans can express what K-pop means to them, how they came about it and, like, leave their mark on the exhibit,” Goelz says. “This is the biggest and most in-depth K-pop exhibit we have ever done.”

There is also a permanent “Mono to Immersive” interactive, where Grammy performances are remixed to demonstrate the evolution of recording technology, says Sticka. This time around, they’ve incorporated BTS’s 2022 Grammys performance of their hit “Butter,” which will allow attendees to watch the performance and experience what it would sound like to listen to it using 1920s technology and so on, up to the modern day.

Hybe COO Tae-Ho Kim says he hopes the exhibit will appeal to K-pop and Hybe superfans, those who are curious about the music and excited to learn more. He says his company aims to “introduce Hybe as a label to visitors,” as well as showcase “the journey that we have taken in the global music industry and the global market.”

Asian American voters favor President Joe Biden over Donald Trump, a new survey has found. But experts say that doesn’t mean Biden has clinched the Asian American vote.

The survey, examining Asian American voter attitudes conducted April 4 to May 26, suggests just under half of Asian American voters, 46%, would choose Biden, while less than one-third, 31%, would vote for Trump if the election were conducted at the time of the survey. Nearly a quarter of the voters surveyed would prefer a third-party candidate, said they were undecided or refused to answer.

The 2024 Asian American Voters Survey still shows an 8-point shift away from Biden since 2020. Biden’s 15-point margin contrasts with the nearly 30-point edge he held over Trump among those voters in the 2020 election, according to an NBC News exit poll.

The new survey most likely points to a lack of enthusiasm for Biden, underscoring “trouble” for his campaign, said Janelle Wong, senior researcher at the nonprofit group AAPI Data, one of the organizations involved in the report.

“Polls tend to overestimate turnout in general, and in this situation, there is real indication that Asian American voters are not fired up for Biden,” Wong said. “Although we are not seeing a mass movement toward Trump in our community, we are seeing a potentially problematic trend for the Biden campaign among this fairly loyal bloc of Democratic-leaning voters.”

The survey — released Wednesday by the nonpartisan groups AAPI Data, APIAVote, Asian Americans Advancing Justice and AARP — polled 2,479 registered voters by telephone and online. It reported an overall margin of error of plus or minus 2.7 percentage points, though that was much higher for individual groups, including Chinese Americans.

The survey was conducted before the first presidential debate last month, in which Biden performed poorly, leading to concerns and criticism from Democrats, and before Trump was convicted of 34 felony counts related to…

Police are looking into whether hazing played a role in the death of a Dartmouth College student whose body was found in a river over the weekend.

Won Jang was last seen around 9:30 p.m. Saturday by docks on the Connecticut River, and he was reported missing Sunday afternoon, police in Hanover, New Hampshire, said.

His body was found at about 7:30 p.m. Sunday in the water about 65 feet offshore, police said.

Jang, 20, was a member of the class of 2026 and a biomedical engineering major from Middletown, Delaware, who “enthusiastically took part in the Dartmouth community,” Dartmouth’s dean of the college, Scott Brown, said in a statement offering condolences to the community.

Two of Jang’s friends wrote in an email to The Dartmouth, the college’s student newspaper, that he had attended a joint event Saturday night of his fraternity, Beta Alpha Omega, and Alpha Phi, a sorority. The event had involved alcohol, the two friends said.

Police Chief Charles Dennis told WMUR-TV of Manchester that they would be looking into whether hazing was involved.

“There is some evidence of alcohol involved, certainly from witnesses and talking with things like that,” he told the station. “Again, that’s all part of our investigation. We did receive an anonymous email this morning through the college that there may be some hazing involved, so we certainly will look into that aspect, too.”

The assistant to the chief of police, Elizabeth Rathburn, confirmed on the phone that investigators are looking into hazing, among other things.

Police have said that a cause of death has not been determined but that foul play is not suspected after an initial investigation.

“The Hanover Police Department’s investigation into this death remains active and ongoing. The Department has interviewed numerous people and is reviewing all evidence collected,” police said in a statement Wednesday afternoon.

The department said it was awaiting autopsy results “as part of reaching its determination.”

Nyah Mway’s mother, Chee War, remembers about seven years ago when he told her he wanted to name his baby sister himself.

“‘Paw K War,’” Chee War, 39, said, explaining that the name means “blooming flower.” “We didn’t even know how he got that name.”

From then on, Nyah Mway — the 13-year-old boy who was fatally shot by police in Utica, New York, on Friday — was fiercely protective of his sister. He was protective of his whole family, in fact.

He’s being remembered as a doting sibling and son.

“Whenever he comes back from school, he’ll say, ‘I love you,’” Chee War said.

The people of Myanmar do not customarily have surnames, instead taking individual compound names.

Nyah Mway was tackled to the ground and shot after he ran from police, who said he was one of two youths stopped in connection with an armed robbery investigation. Authorities said he appeared to have a weapon in his hand, which turned out to be a replica of a Glock 17 Gen 5 handgun with a detachable magazine.

Utica police has identified Patrick Husnay as the officer who fired his weapon at the teen. Officers Bryce Patterson and Andrew Citriniti were also involved in the incident. All three are on paid administrative leave under department policy, officials said.

Investigations have been launched by the police department and the State attorney general’s Special Investigations Office. In an email, Utica Police Lt. Michael Curley did not comment on the probes but said that through the process, “the facts of the incident will be made available for the public to see.”

“We will continue to be transparent and open with the investigative process to rebuild the trust within our local community,” he said.

Nyah Mway, a refugee who had fled to the U.S. from Myanmar with his family when he was 4, had just finished eighth grade and was looking forward to starting high school in the fall, his family said. His mother said that like any other teenager, he loved…

A man pleaded guilty to murder on Tuesday for brutally stabbing a woman to death in 2022 after he “mercilessly stalked” her from the street into her Manhattan apartment building.

Assamad Nash, 27, also pleaded guilty to burglary as a sexually motivated felony in the Feb. 13, 2022, attack on 35-year-old Christina Yuna Lee, in which police said Nash stabbed the victim more than 40 times in the neck and torso.

“Today Assamad Nash was held accountable for senselessly taking Christina Yuna Lee’s life after he followed her into her own home,” District Attorney Bragg said in a statement. Bragg said his thoughts “are with her family and our community as they continue healing from this tragedy.”

Prosecutors said Lee was returning home from a Saturday night out when Nash followed her into her Chrystie Street building in Chinatown and up six flights of stairs to her apartment. The building’s landlord said that Nash “mercilessly stalked” his victim, and images obtained by NBC New York showed him following her up the stairs.

As Lee entered the apartment, Nash pushed his way inside and attempted to sexually assault her, prosecutors said.

“She opened the door and he just slipped in right behind her. She never even knew he was there,” Lee’s landlord, Brian Chin, previously told NBC New York.

Lee’s screams pierced through the building just after 4 a.m., which led two young women who live across the hall to call 911. Officers got to the building in three minutes.

Prosecutors said Lee was still alive when officers arrived in the building, as they could hear her cries and screams for help, but the door was barricaded. Police had to break the apartment’s steel door down to get inside, and got inside as Lee went silent. They found Nash hiding under a mattress and Lee dead in the bathroom with at least 40 stab wounds; the alleged murder weapon was under a dresser.

Officials familiar with the case said Nash had five prior felonies and three pending court…

SEATTLE — A Seattle police officer was fired for calling his Chinese American neighbor racist and sexist slurs while off duty in 2022, according to a news report.

Officer Burton Hill was fired in May, The Seattle Times reported.

The termination stemmed from an altercation with his neighbor, Zhen Jin, over the disposal of dog bones at the condominium complex where they lived in suburban Seattle.

The Seattle Office of Police Accountability had recommended a range of disciplinary actions, from a 30-day suspension to termination of employment. Hill was fired by then-police Chief Adrian Diaz on May 2, police spokesperson Eric Muñoz said.

Attempts by The Associated Press to reach Hill for comment weren’t immediately successful.

The former police chief himself was removed from his post in late May by Mayor Bruce Harrell after lawsuits alleging Diaz’s police force was unwelcoming and discriminatory toward women and people of color. Diaz has vehemently denied the allegations.

Audio originally published by The Stranger newspaper of the altercation between Hill and Jin, which was quoted at length in the final OPA report, includes Hill barraging Jin with threats and insults over Jin allegedly throwing food scraps outside that Hill’s dog tried to eat.

In the recording, which was given to the accountability office by the nonprofit Chinese Information and Service Center, Hill uses derogatory terms for women and East Asian people, also repeatedly calling Jin “stupid.” At one point, Hill told her, “You’re going to jail.”

OPA Director Gino Betts Jr. sustained two of the three allegations against Hill related to officer professionalism and bias-based policing. A third allegation about officers not using their authority for personal gain was found inconclusive. The OPA report was published earlier this month.

Messages seeking comment from The Seattle Times to the Seattle Police Officers Guild and Office of Police Accountability were not returned Thursday.

Mindy Kaling announced via Instagram that she quietly welcomed her third child in February.

The actress, director and writer posted a photo of her two other children with their new baby sister, Anne, in the middle.

“She’s the best birthday present I could’ve ever imagined,” Kaling wrote. “When things are hard, whenever I veer towards cynicism, my three kids are such a great reminder of the pure joy in my life.”

Kaling, who hasn’t commented on who the father of her children is, also wrote, “I’m so lucky I live in a place where I could do this by myself, on my own timeline.”

The surprise announcement also included a photo of Kaling with her baby bump and another in the delivery room with her children.

Kaling has previously revealed that her son and daughter, Spencer and Katherine, have Indian middle names after a fan asked the South Indian actress in her comments section.

“Not my business but do your children have Indian middle names?” the user asked. “You are proud of your culture and I was wondering why the kids have very caucasian names.”

Kaling responded by saying that both her children have traditional Indian names — her son’s middle name is Avu and her daughter’s middle name is Swati.

Kaling did not respond to a request for further comment.

The U.S. should welcome more students from China, but to study the humanities rather than sciences, the second-ranked U.S. diplomat said on Monday, noting that U.S. universities are limiting Chinese students’ access to sensitive technology given security concerns.

Deputy Secretary of State Kurt Campbell said not enough Americans were studying science, technology, engineering and mathematics. He said the U.S. needed to recruit more international students for those fields, but from India — an increasingly important U.S. security partner — not China.

For years, Chinese students have made up the largest foreign student body in the U.S. and totaled nearly 290,000 in the 2022/23 academic year. But some in academia and civil society argue that deteriorating U.S.-China relations and concerns about theft of U.S. expertise, have derailed scientific cooperation and subjected Chinese students to unwarranted suspicion.

“I would like to see more Chinese students coming to the United States to study humanities and social sciences, not particle physics,” Campbell told the Council on Foreign Relations think-tank.

Campbell was asked about the China Initiative introduced by the Trump administration, intended to combat Chinese espionage and intellectual property theft, which ended under the Biden administration after critics said it spurred racial profiling of Asian Americans.

Campbell said U.S. universities had made “careful attempts” to support continuing higher education for Chinese students, but had also been “careful about the labs, some of the activities of Chinese students.”

“I do think it is possible to curtail and to limit certain kinds of access, and we have seen that generally, particularly in technological programs across the United States,” he said.

Campbell said some had suggested that China was the only source to make up the shortage of science students.

“I believe that the largest increase that we need to see going forward would be much larger…

After his primary victory over two other Asian American Democrats for the 40th District in the New York State Assembly, Ron Kim said his win came down to his focus on the middle class.

Kim, the incumbent, on Tuesday defeated challengers Yi Andy Chen and Dao Yin with more than half of the vote in a Queens district that has a majority-Asian population. While the area has long been home to a diverse electorate, dominated by immigrants from China, Korea and other parts of Asia, Kim said they are largely united in their economic concerns.

“I think everyone can agree that without a growing and stronger middle class, everything falls apart because people are pitted against each other,” Kim said.

In the primary, Kim clinched 54% of the vote while Chen, the runner-up, trailed by 14%. This is certainly not Kim’s first rodeo. For more than a decade, he has represented the Assembly district, which encompasses Flushing, a neighborhood known for housing New York’s largest Chinatown.

While the district, which is more than two-thirds Asian and almost 67% foreign-born, has long been a popular destination for Asian immigrants, the rise of certain ethnic groups have led to shifting demographics. Kim said that in his first bid, the most politically active groups included those from Taiwan, Korea and Hong Kong. In the last few years, he said, more mainland Chinese organizations have gotten involved. And he’s had to take time to learn, he added.

Ultimately, Kim said, anxiety around a shrinking middle class has been a motivator for many of these immigrant groups. Census data shows that the median household income in the district hovers around $58,308, significantly lower than that of the city at $76,607. And the campaign has stressed the importance of public safety and affordability in addressing the issue, he said.

“Everyone just wants to live in a safe environment where their hard work is valued,” he said. “As long as we can connect on those basic ingredients, it…
