Chinese American Women in Action (CAWA) in collaboration with North Central College, Naperville Bank & Trust and Anderson’s Bookshop will present a lively book talk by nationally-recognized author/film maker Curtis Chin at North Central College’s Wentz Concert Hall at 7PM on Mon., Nov. 6, 2023.
Moderated by NCTV-17 Executive Director Liz Spencer, Chin will discuss his newly published book, Everything I Learned, I Learned in a Chinese Restaurant. The book is heralded by Time Magazine and Washington Post as one of the most anticipated books of the fall.

Served up by Curtis Chin, the moving story is set against the backdrop of his family’s popular Chinese restaurant where Chin learned to embrace his identity as a gay ABC (American-born Chinese) and realized just how much he had to offer to the world, to his beloved family, and to himself. Everything I Learned, I Learned in a Chinese Restaurant is both a memoir and an invitation: to step inside one boy’s childhood oasis, scoot into a vinyl booth, and grow up with him—and perhaps even share something off the secret menu.
“Curtis highlights what we all have in common and what makes us unique. His book has something for Naperville residents of all backgrounds who are seeking ways to learn about each other as our city becomes increasingly diverse,” said Nancy Chen, President of CAWA.
Book buyers are invited to a VIP reception with Curtis Chin at 6PM. The book talk at 7PM is free and open to the public. Wentz Concert Hall is located in the North Central College Fine and Performing Arts Center, 171 E. Chicago Avenue, just steps from downtown Naperville.
