Following in the footsteps of buddy comedies like Rough Night and Girl’s Trip, we are getting to see a new spin on friends going on one of those unforgettable trips where everything seems to go hilariously wrong. Directed by Crazy Rich Asians and Raya and the Last Dragon scribe Adele Lim, Lionsgate has released the red band trailer for Joy Ride.

The comedy stars Ashley Park, Sherry Cola, Oscar nominee Stephanie Hsu, and Sabrina Wu all of whom play characters who bond over their raunchy adventures in alcohol abuse, accidental drug use, and impersonating as K-Pop stars.

The trailer’s opening sets the tone for the film by introducing us to a young Lolo, the new girl in town, to Audrey, the adoptive daughter of two Caucasian parents. They hit it off almost immediately and only become the best of friends when Lolo knocks out the playground bully. Quickly flash-fowarding to adulthood, we see Audrey (Park) preparing for a trip back to “the motherland,” where she intends to meet her birth parents. But she won’t be going alone, as Lolo (Cola) will be her official translator. Also joining them are Kat (Hsu), her college friend turned Chinese soap star; and Deadeye (Wu), Lolo’s eccentric cousin.

What happens next can only be described as a bonding experience backed by a slap-off, run-ins with the law, accidentally becoming drug dealers, and lots and lots of drinking. There’s also a few thirst traps as well in this comedy that is sure to be filled with an assortment of debaucheries.

Also starring Ronny Chieng (Crazy Rich Asians), Lori Tan Chinn (Awkwafina is Nora From Queens), David Denman (Greenland), Annie Mumolo (Barb & Star Go to Vista Del Mar), Desmond Chiam (The Falcon and the Winter Soldier), Alexander Hodge (Insecure), and Chris Pang (Crazy Rich Asians).

Directed by Lim, who uses a screenplay written by Cherry Chevapravatdumrong and Teresa Hsiao, based on a…
