Hopefully Teo Yoo isn’t working too hard, but it seems like he might be in Takashi Doscher’s newest project, “Karoshi.” Yoo is best known for his role opposite Greta Lee in the Academy Award-nominated “Past Lives,” as well as in the award-winning film “Decision to Leave,” and Korean drama “Love to Hate You.” He was also recently cast in the second season of the Netflix drama “The Recruit.”
Doscher, who wrote the script for “Karoshi,” will also direct. The film marks another collaboration between 87Eleven Entertainment — the company best known for producing the “John Wick” series — and the multi-hyphenate. Although he hasn’t worked on the beloved franchise, Doscher has written other interesting projects such as the adaptation of the popular video game “Ghost of Tsushima.”
Doscher’s previous works include, writing and directing sci-fi movie “Only,” which starred Freida Pinto (“Slumdog Millionaire,” “North Star”) and Leslie Odom Jr. (“Hamilton,” “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery”). Chad Stahelski (“John Wick”), who is set to direct Doscher’s “Ghost of Tsushima” will produce alongside Alex Young (“Ford v. Ferrari”) and Jason Spitz (“Day Shift”).
Not much is known about the cast or the plot, but Deadline described the film as “a corporate thriller with a samurai twist.” If anything, the title is quite befitting, considering that the Japanese term “karoshi” roughly translates to overwork death, or dying suddenly from excessive occupational stress — hopefully it isn’t foreshadowing of Yoo’s fate.
Only time, and the cast of “Karoshi,” will tell, so make sure to keep an open eye for any more details about this riveting project!
