Chesterfield man charged with hate crimes for damaging church, Asian restaurant

ST. LOUIS COUNTY (First Alert 4) — A 20-year-old Chesterfield man was charged with spray-painting the name of a Nazi group on a church and an Asian restaurant.

The St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office charged Frankie Rizzello with two counts of property damage motivated by discrimination, a class D felony. His bond was set at $250,000 cash only, no 10%.

A probable cause statement against Rizzello alleges he and others spray-painted the name of a Nazi movement on the outside wall of One Family Church on Delmar in University City. It also claims he is responsible for spray-painting the name on an outside wall of PokeDoke, which sits on the same block as the church.

The probable cause statement says the damage to the businesses exceeded $750 each. Rizzello admitted to police that he helped in the vandalism and that he does not like Black or Jewish people.

When police initially tried to talk to Rizzello, the statement says, he armed himself with a rifle and searched the internet for the penalty of killing a police officer. Police also claim he posted online messages threatening people living in his apartment complex because of their race, religion, or sexual preference.

Court documents said the vandalism happened sometime between January and October 2023.
