CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) – A University of Virginia graduate is now the first Asian-American Federal Judge in Virginia’s history to serve the commonwealth.
Tuesday, March 12, the Senate voted to support Jasmine Yoon for judgeship on the United States District Court for the Western District of Virginia.
Yoon has worked for the US Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Virginia and was the Deputy General Counsel for the University of Virginia.
“She moved to the United States from Korea with her parents at the age of 12, not speaking a word of English,” Senator Tim Kaine said, “But by the time she was 18, had done well enough in high school to receive a scholarship to the University of Virginia and she’s been an absolute stellar performer her entire life.”
The bipartisan vote confirms there are no vacancies on the Federal Bench in Virginia.
