A New Jersey man has been arrested for breaking into a residence in Central New York because it belonged to an Asian American business owner, according to police.
What happened: Cristian Pena Ramos, 24, of Newark, allegedly burglarized the victim’s home in Manlius on Tuesday, Feb. 27. A neighbor caught the suspect with two others — believed to be members of a South American theft group — in action and called 911.
The aftermath: Ramos was immediately arrested. However, his accomplices managed to flee despite a search that involved assistance from the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office and the New York State Police K-9 and drone units, Manlius police said.
Charges: Ramos has been charged with one count of second-degree burglary, one count of third-degree criminal mischief, two counts of fourth-degree criminal mischief and one count of fourth-degree conspiracy. He was released on bail but was immediately detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement due to an immigration detainer.

What’s next: The investigation continues as Ramos’ co-conspirators remain at large. The trio reportedly drove up to the victim’s home in a white 2010 Volkswagen Jetta.
