Disney Plus on Monday announced four new Korean titles for 2024, bringing the total to seven so far into the year.
What they are: The latest series titles include thriller “Blood Free,” mystery “Unmasked,” action-thriller “The Tyrant” and crime drama “Gangnam B-Side.” Reality show “The Zone: Survival Mission” will also return for a third season.
“The new Korean originals announced today really builds on the positive momentum and success of our APAC content slate last year,” Carol Choi, Disney’s executive vice president for original content strategy in APAC, said in a news release. “We will continue to scale our creative ambition with a curated collection of APAC originals, centered on quality storytelling and top talent, in collaboration with the region’s most exciting storytellers.”
The streamer previously announced “Lightshop,” an adaptation of the web comic of the same title by Kang Full, and period drama “Uncle Samsik,” which named “Parasite” actor Song Kang-ho as lead star. More Korean titles are expected to arrive throughout the year.
About “Blood Free”: “Blood Free” stars Ju Jihoon (“Kingdom”) and Han Hyojoo (“Moving”). The series follows a former bodyguard haunted by the failures of his past and recruited to protect the CEO of a controversial lab-grown meat company, who also happens to be a survivor of an attack that changed his life.
About “Unmasked”: “Unmasked,” which stars Kim Hyesoo (“Signal,” “Under the Queen’s Umbrella”), follows a group of investigative journalists fighting for their careers after broadcasting a controversial story. To save their jobs, they are given the impossible task of solving a 20-year-old cold case involving a famous actor who mysteriously disappeared.
