With awards season in full swing, the 81st Golden Globes nominees have just been revealed, and there’s plenty to talk about.
Announced this morning Dec. 11, the 2024 Golden Globe nominations highlight exciting and compelling contenders from Asian creatives and performers on this year’s ballot. Among the notable nods, Celine Song’s “Past Lives” leads the way with five nominations, which include Best Picture for a Non-English Film, Best Screenplay, Best Motion Picture for a Drama and Best Director. Greta Lee also received her first-ever Golden Globe nomination for her performance in the film.
Lee Sung Jin’s dark comedy “BEEF” also earned multiple nods, including Best Limited Series. Steven Yeun and Ali Wong both received Best Performance recognition for their roles in the show as well. “May December” earned a nomination for Best Picture in a Comedy or Musical, with Charles Melton also receiving his first Golden Globe nod for his performance in the film in Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role.
Acclaimed animated director Hayao Miyazaki’s latest film “The Boy and the Heron” earned a nomination for Best Animated Motion Picture, as well as Peter Sohn’s “Elemental” and Makoto Shinkai’s “Suzume.”
