Actor Karan Soni, best known for his role as the taxi driver Dopinder in the “Deadpool” film franchise, will join the cast of the upcoming animated superhero film “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.”
In the sequel to 2018’s “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse,” Soni, 34, will voice the character Pavitr Prabhakar, a poor Indian boy who is granted spider powers by an ancient yogi to fight evil. Prabhakar eventually becomes Spider-Man India and a member of Miguel O’Hara’s (voiced by Oscar Isaac) Spider-Forces.
Speculation about the South Asian web-slinger appearing in the sequel first began in December 2021 when Sony Pictures released a first look at the sequel.
Directed by Joaquim Dos Santos, Justin K. Thompson and Kemp Powers, the highly anticipated film sees the return of Shameik Moore as Spider-Man/Miles Morales and Hailee Steinfeld as Gwen Stacy/Spider-Gwen.
“Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” will also feature returning actors such as Jake Johnson, Luna Lauren Vélez and Brian Tyree Henry, as well as newcomers such as Jason Schwartzman and Daniel Kaluuya.
In 2019, “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” won an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature Film and helped introduce the concept of multiverses in the superhero film genre to mainstream audiences.
The next installment of the Spider-Verse franchise will premiere in cinemas on June 2.
