Mark your calendars! The biggest night for Asian Pacific Islander creatives is back for its 21st installment. The Unforgettable Gala returns for a night of celebration, glam and endless fun on Saturday, Dec. 16 at The Beverly Hilton.
The star-studded event was first created 20 years ago by Character Media and has celebrated the slow yet steady growth of Asian representation throughout the diaspora. Hosting more than 700 of the brightest of API Hollywood, past award recipients include Sandra Oh, Ke Huy Quan, Bretman Rock and Chloe Kim.
But this year, the black-tie event that honors and celebrates AAPI celebrities, influencers and leaders is going global. Announced in an exclusive press release from the Hollywood Reporter, Character Media alongside their new partnership with Seoul-based entertainment and content company AsiaLab, will be expanding this year’s award recipient pool to include talents from Asia and the Pacific Islands for the first time ever.
While the gala has a tentative date of Dec.16, the event may be postponed depending on the outcome of the current Hollywood strikes by the Screen Actors Guild and Writers Guild of America. Character Media, alongside The Unforgettable Gala, stands in solidarity with both Guilds and is prepared to push the event to the first quarter of 2024.
“For more than 20 years, honoring API artists, especially writers and actors, has been and continues to be an essential part of Unforgettable,” Character Media publisher and gala founder James Ryu said in a statement to the Hollywood Reporter. “We stand united with those on the picket lines in their fight for representation, fairness and equity. While there has been immense progress for APIs in the last two decades, there is still room to grow for our community in this industry, both behind and in front of the camera.”
