A man in Thailand has embarked on a journey of love and commitment with the aim of winning his girlfriend’s hand in marriage.
Suthep Promjit, 56, set out on foot on Jan. 14 with the aim of reaching his girlfriend Thanapa Khiaw-on’s home some 1,200 kilometers (approximately 746 miles) away to propose to her on Valentine’s Day.
Originating from his hometown in Nakhon Nayok, Suthep has covered over 1,100 kilometers (approximately 684 miles) as of Saturday on his trek to Satun’s Thung Wa district.
Accompanying Suthep is his friend Niwat Thongwithi, who is riding a saleng, a motorcycle with a sidecar, on the journey.
Suthep met Thanapa, also 56, via TikTok five years ago and has been in a long-distance relationship with her ever since.
“I want people who abuse their families and loved ones, as well as those who are unfaithful to their wives, to pay attention to this journey,” Suthep was quoted as saying.
According to Suthep, he now weighs 40 kilograms (approximately 88 pounds) after losing over 17 kilograms (approximately 37 pounds) in the walk.
Suthep said his significant weight loss makes him happy because it shows how much he loves his girlfriend and is committed to their future together.
The couple plans to travel around Thailand once they are married.
In 2019, a man in China traveled nearly 1,500 miles to surprise his girlfriend, only to find her in the arms of another man.
An image of the man wearing a bear costume while catching the affair went viral on social media.
