May is Asian American Native Hawaiian Pacific Islander Heritage Month and what better way to celebrate than by throwing a massive party. That’s exactly what Gold House, a nonprofit that is the leading cultural ecosystem powering Asian Pacific creatives, companies, and communities, did.
For its third annual Gold Gala on May 11, Gold House convened over 600 guests, including top Asian Pacific and multicultural leaders, at the historic Music Center in downtown Los Angeles. The gala celebrated Gold House’s A100 list, a yearly showcase of the 100 most impactful Asian Pacific changemakers in culture and society who blend industry greatness with societal good.
All eyes were on the gold carpet as celebrities, actors, activists, creators, and more donned their most stylish “heritage black tie” outfits. Here are four trends we couldn’t look away from.
1. Pastels are back!
Peachy creams and pinks dominated the carpet. The “Queen” Michelle Yeoh wore a cream two-piece skirt and suit jacket set with gold adornments. She paired the look with black peep-toe pumps and a playful bag that had its own face. The Filipino Canadian actor Manny Jacinto (“The Good Place,” “The Acolyte”) had a similar color palette, mixing a cream suit with black shoes and gold embellishments. Heartthrob Darren Barnet (“Never Have I Ever”) paired his crisp white suit with a pink button-down.
With a million-dollar smile, makeup mogul Patrick Ta also chose a light pink silky jacket and pants ensemble, which he cinched with a matching waistband. To top it off, he accessorized with light purple mesh gloves and white shoes. Last but certainly not least, multihyphenate artist Avantika (“Mean Girls,” “Spin”) went with a beaded light peach gown that exuded the motif of a butterfly wing. The sculptural gown was married with a sleek updo and makeup that accentuated her piercing brown eyes.
